Prof.  Dr Assen Zlatarov University, Burgas is the only state higher school in south-eastern Bulgaria. It provides education in four areas of science: social, natural,  technical and medical sciences.

Students are trained for 18 professional qualifications of  the present Classification of areas of  Higher Education and in 48 subjects to obtain "Professional Bachelor in ...", “Bachelor”, “Master” or  PhD degrees in the five  faculties, three colleges and two department of  the University.

The University also has two general-purpose units, the Computer Centre and the Post-Graduate Qualifications and International Cooperation Department. The research sector of the University comprises three separate units, responsible for Research and Development, Research and Production and Practice and Production.

The greatest treasure of the University is its academic staff (professors, associate and assistant professors, research fellows), doctoral students and students. Prof. Dr Assen Zlatarov University is located on an area of about 20 hectares, has six teaching buildings with over 150 lecture halls and 70 laboratories, a hotel  and a restaurant and  three workshop buildings used for practice and production. University students can live in the three hostels, have their meals in the student’s  canteens and cafés  and use  gyms   and a medical center  located in the  different buildings. The University has a rich and varied collection of over 180,000 books, 30,000 periodicals, 40,000 patents and standards and 10,000 pieces other  library materials available in the central library and its three branches.
